BEHIND THE SCENE

When travelling to Alaska I always make sure to be prepared for rainy weather. That means Gore-Tex fishing waders and jacket, and at least two specifically designed camera raincoats.

So you can imagine my surprise and great disbelief this time when we had a full week of sunny weather in Katmai National Park.

I don’t like to shoot in the rain but shooting in bright sunshine can be really challenging, especially when battling harsh shadows. One has to learn to make the most of it.

As it turned out, we had plenty of opportunities to play with backlighting and rim-lighting on the bears.
